In My Mailbox (20th January 2013)

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren and is a weekly meme to show what books you have accumulated during the week.

This week I went a little bit crazy. Even after posting that embarrasing picture of the books I own but still haven't read here, I still ended up acquiring the following books this week. I really need another 2 days in my week just to dedicate to reading instead of working I think!

Bought:
Zoo Scarecrow (Shane Schofield, #3) Ice Station Matched (Matched, #1)

Netgalley:
Hiding in Sunshine Out of Nowhere

So, although I kind of ruined my plan to try and get through at least 5 of my TBR books before buying anymore, I'm ok with that :-)

What great books did you get this week? I'd love to know!

I have to apologise to everyone for not being around much this past week but I do have two very good excuses! Everyone is my household has been sick with the flu (hubby, bub and I) which has made life in general very difficult and then my laptop decided to give up the ghost!

So, these are the books I acquired this week (click on the covers to be taken to Goodreads):

For Review:
Wicked Allure
Wicked Allure by Leslie C. Ferdinand
The Jealousy Glass (Artifacts of Empire, #2)
The Jealousy Glass by Gwen Perkins

Gifted:
I was very lucky to receive two RAK's this month:

The first one, I Am Number Four, was from Vonnie at Vonnie's Reading Corner and The Raven Boys, which was actually an August RAK, was pre-ordered for me from Petra at Hazel The Witch. I am so excited about receiving both of these and cannot wait until I can fit them into my reading schedule.

I only got one book this week for review as I'm on a bit of a book buying ban until I get through some more on my TBR list. It was:

Intuition (The Elite Series #1) 'Olive Morgan is not your typical psychologist. She can also access the memories of anyone she comes into contact with. After an explosion in a Sydney shopping mall, Olive is enlisted alongside a team of 'Elite' consultants. She joins Canan Jones who can attune to the emotions of other people, including Olive. Initially, she distrusts the agency, but when another explosion threatens more lives Olive has no choice but to use her skill to prevent another disaster.

Is terrorism really at play or is the agency hiding the real reason behind these attacks?

Olive wants to solve the case, but her personal life is suffering. Despite having a boyfriend, she feels a connection brewing with Canan, who has an uncanny way of making her feel calm when life becomes overwhelming...'

I really need to get myself into gear in the next few days as far as reading is concerned. I've been extremely sick with a bad flu and have completely lost my voice so haven't had the energy to sit up let alone read much lately. Hopefully when this dreadful bug finally leaves my body I can get back into my normal routines again.

This week I got the following books:

Book of Shadows This was an Amazon freebie this week and it sounded quite interesting so I couldn't resist getting it.

Eragon (Inheritance, #1)I received this from another member of The Book Swap. This has been the first book I have requested from this site and I was really pleased with how the whole processed worked.

Well, that's it for this week. I'm trying to tame down the amount of books I get every week so I can start to make a dent in my TBR pile.

In My Mailbox (11th June 2012)

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren and is a weekly meme to show what books you have accumulated during the week.

I am late in posting IMM this week due to having a packed long weekend so far. Anyway, here is what I acquired during the week:

Bought:
Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) Yes, I'll admit it, I finally folded to all the hype and purchased this book last week. I'm going into reading it with an open mind because I've seen and heard so many different opinions so am curious to see what I think of it.
Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell, and KnowYep, as anyone who is a regular reader will know I am a sucker for all things animal related. I saw this on the shelf in the bookshop and just couldn't resist as it sounds like a fun, light read.

For Review:
The $60,000 Dog: My Life With AnimalsSurprise, surprise!! Another animal related one, haha! This is my first ever request from Edelweiss which I was very excited about. I could go crazy on that website!

So, that's me for this week.

I'd love to know what everyone else got this past week.

In My Mailbox (3rd June 2012)

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren and is a weekly meme to show what books you have accumulated during the week.

I had a bit of a slow week this week. I'm trying desperately to stop increasing my TBR list so am enforcing a bit of a book buying ban for the month of June.

Therefore the only book I received this week was one for review:

Shifting Gears (The Rider Series)
Synopsis: Wesley Pierce, a Virginia State Trooper, is in search of the perfect log cabin to settle down in. After losing his brother and doing his best to care for the family he left behind he decides, a year after Nathan’s death, that he’s finally ready to move forward.

Olivia Michaels, a realtor in search of her own dream home and a way out of her parents’ attic, takes on a client who can help get her that much closer to affording her freedom. Little does she know that it isn’t the perfect home that she finds but through Wesley Pierce she manages to find herself. And maybe, if she’s capable of taking the leap, she might even manage to find love.

This novel, not unlike its predecessor in the Rider series, The Wanderer, is not a story about life altering suspense and mystery or a love that seemed impossible from the very start. Instead, this story is of love in its purest form. In life it isn’t mystery and excitement that drive our hearts but trepidation and the moment in which we all decide to jump unguarded into the arms of another.

In My Mailbox (22nd April 2012)

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren and is a weekly meme to show what books you have accumulated during the week.

I'm getting a bit nervous about all the new books I've been acquiring lately because due to my looming CPA exam on the 2nd May I'm just not getting in the time to read that I would really like due to study commitments. I've officially hit panic stricken stressed-out mode now and won't calm down until I walk out of that exam in a week and a half.

Anyway, here are the books I acquired this week which are all patiently waiting for me to get back to my normal reading schedule:

Bought:

Spying in High Heels (A High Heels Mystery, #1) Darkhouse (Experiment in Terror, #1) The Ghost Hunter (The Hunter #1)

For Review:

Morning Star (Ethos, #1) A Good Man

Currently I'm still trying to get into 'Dead Reckoning' by Charlaine Harris but am not going so well. It's not the poor book's fault though as all I can think about when I try to read is my study materials so hopefully I will get into it a bit more once I de-stress.

I've also just started listening to George Orwell's 'Animal Farm' when I'm doing the housework and in the car. This is a classic that I've been wanting to read for a very long time so can't wait to get a bit more into it.

What books have you acquired this week?

In My Mailbox (16th April 2012)

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren and is a weekly meme to show what books you have accumulated during the week.

This week I went on a bit of an e-book spree as I have recently discovered the 'Kindle for PC' app available at Amazon which I downloaded onto my laptop. I've been debating whether to get a kindle or other e-reader for a while now and keep having big emotional discussions with myself due to the fact that I don't think you can beat the touch, feel and smell of reading an actual book. I also have a bit of a disorder where I just love to stand and stare at my super full bookshelves which is obviously something that I couldn't do with an e-reader. Maybe if someone just bought me one as a present (hint, hint hubby!) I wouldn't have to fight with myself about it anymore.......

Anyway, here is what I acquired this week (click on the covers to go to Goodreads):

LOST (Clan of Macaulay) 'Til We Meet Again Spellbound (Legend, #1) Forsaken Cades Cove The Body Departed Creative Spirit Rupture Stranger Will

I have found that for some reason my little 13 month old refuses to let me hold a book in my hands to read it even when he's happy playing on his own but he doesn't mind me having my laptop out and reading on that. He went through a very sick few days last week where I couldn't put him down for more than 2 minutes or he'd start screaming so my Kindle for PC app on my laptop was my lifesaver while I was trapped holding him on the lounge for a week straight until he started feeling better.

Who knows. Maybe there is room in my life for an e-reader after all?

So, has anyone read any of the above books and liked/disliked them?
