Feature and Follow (13th April 2012)

Feature & Follow is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.  It is a great way to make new friends and gain followers.

Here is this weeks question:

Q: What is one book that you would be nervous to see a movie adaption of because you think the movie could never live up to the book?

Mine would have to be 'Contest' by Matthew Reilly. I loved this book and thought it was a great idea (albeit it now seems very similar to The Hunger Games but with alien content) and I think that if it was made into a movie it would seem a bit tacky. I just don't think a movie could do it justice unless they got the alien creatures just right as well as the special effects.

What movie would you be nervous about if it was to become a movie?

  1. I totally agree - special effects can make or break a movie, and I think I'd be annoyed if a favourite book of mine got made into a movie with rubbish effects!

    1. Those are my thoughts exactly. Even in this day and age some special effects just aren't done as well as you'd think they should be.

  2. I haven't heard of this one, but I can imagine the film appearing fake/tacky with aliens...

    1. Here is the link to Goodreads for that book (I probably should have put it in my post above but just completely forgot to!)

    1. Frankly I don't think I've ever seen a movie made from a book that's been as good. You just can't get that amount of detail into a 1 1/2-2 hour movie. The Harry Potter movies are absolute proof of this!

  4. Hi! I'm a new follower hopping by!

Lovely answer! I think as long as the author has a voice and participates in the decisions needed for the movie, the movie will turn out fine.

    1. You're probably right but I don't know how much input author's generally get when a movie is made from their book.

    1. If you like fast paced supernatural kind of books then you'd like this one. I read it so quick because I couldn't put it down even though it's not normally my type of book.

    1. Contest

I definitely recommend it. It's pretty old but if you're a fan of Matthew Reilly and his style of writing at all you'd probably like it.

  7. I thought Hunger Games was an amazing movie...so maybe they would do a decent job with your book. Who knows though, its so hard to imagine! :) Great choice!

    Happy Follow Friday!

    1. I've yet to see The Hunger Games movie. I only just finished the book last night as I refuse to see a movie if I haven't read the book. Now I know the story though I can't wait to see how it was interpreted in the movie.

  8. I've never read Contest but I can definitely identify with being nervous someone will ruin your vision of what you've read. I hope, if they do give you a Contest movie, it rocks!

Also, happy FF! Just sneaking through to say hey. I'm a new follower! I hope you'll stop by & visit me too.

    1. That's probably the main issue. You build up a scene in your head as well as a type of character and when it doesn't match in a movie it makes me disappointed.
